Pawleys Island is such a beautiful and cool place especially because it's not overly crowded, like Myrtle Beach is. One of our favorite things to do at the beach is hunt for shells. Pawleys Island has a special shell that can only be found on the Island. If you're lucky enough to find or be given a "Pawleys Island shell", the legend say the Island has been blessed by your presence. That's why Pawleys Island is also known as the "The Blessed Isle".
In 2019, as my husband and I were walking on the beach, their was this nice lady who gave us a Pawleys Island shell. She didn't know this but it gave us hope that one day we would become parents. The previous year, we had lost our first pregnancy shortly after the beach. When we received the shell from this nice lady, it gave us renewed hope! We also were in the midst of a timed infertility cycle and just a few days later, while at the beach we had to go for a blood draw to confirm pregnancy with this cutie above! I was a little emotional after accepting the shell as I couldn't help but feel like everything was going to come to fruition! Sure enough, that 2nd blood draw to confirm that our BETA HCG was doubling appropriately, indicating that the pregnancy was sticking, and for the next 6 weeks we continue to pray for him!
Last year was the 1st year we missed out on Pawleys Island but it was definitely for a great reason, we welcomed our 2nd son Daniel about the same time the beach was happening. It's so cool now to continue some of our fun traditions with our completed family!
While we spent some time on the beach playing in the sand, and swimming, we also enjoyed watching some different birds and Cranes in some of the tide pools!
This Great Egret below was captured in midflight, with a snack! What a beauty!
This Common Grackle below, was enjoying a rest on our boardwalk out to our creek dock!
This year our whole family had a tent set up on the beach everyday for some sunshade. This dragonfly continued to visit us. The Dragonfly has been symbolic of happiness, new beginnings, and change for many centuries. My husbands Grandfather loved Pawleys and when he passed away part of his essence will forever remain at Pawleys. This dragonfly felt like Dr. Carr was paying us a visit at one of his most loved vacation spots. He was so loved and is missed dearly but his legacy will continue to carry on!
Stay tuned for the next blog, where we detail and adventure on our way home from the beach.....hint, we like waterfalls!!!! :)
